As Americans we need to have a food storage program. Remember buying food now and storing it is only prudent, not hording. In America's ancestral heritage, as well as the rest of the world, stored food for survival during lean times was more common than today. We know even in ancient Egypt they stored grain in preparation for a famine. Anyone now, not thinking about this chooses to do so to their own peril. I am not trying to scare you, only trying to get America to prepare for the unavoidable.
This I know comes as a conservative view, but it is a prudent view as well. The average grocery store in America only has enough food on hand for three days at the most. If a crisis hits, the stores will be without food and everything else within three hours most likely. In a crisis like a natural disaster, some people are going to loot and take what they think they are entitled to. There will be assaults, robberies, and theft. Misery loves company and people often sink to their lowest level in a crisis. If you are prepared, however, you do not have to worry about going out and finding food. You can be home protecting your family. Your family will be grateful that you thought ahead.
The people who thought you were cooky will wish they had listened to your words of wisdom and foresight.
Getting started on a food storage plan is not as difficult as you think. People with modest means can easily have a plan of action. We can show you how. Gold is gold and silver is silver and there is no penalty whether it is broken or not, or if silver is tarnished or not! If it's only one earring buy it, it all adds up. People having garage sales rarely check to see what they have or what it is made of. That is to your advantage.
