Deidre Vaughn Emerson was born and raised in the Birmingham, Alabama area. She began studying cello at age five. She received her Bachelors of Music in cello performance magna cum laude from Birmingham- Southern College. She received her Masters of Music in cello performance from the University of Houston in the studio of Vagram Saradjian. She has attended many music festivals both domestic and abroad. She has experience in multiple genres from classical, ballet, opera, popular, sacred, rock, country, fiddle, film scores, and many, many others. She now currently resides in Nashville, Tennessee as a full time musician via teaching, studio work, and gigging. She is also professor of cello at Tennessee State University.This is her Mel Bay Artist Interview with Christel Blackington filling in for Erica Cantrell. Deidre also teaches a Mel Bay Pro Lick.
