Visp (658 m ü. M.), Hauptort des gleichnamigen Bezirks im Schweizer Kanton Wallis, liegt am Eingang zu den Südtälern Mattertal und Saastal. Die frühere Gemeinde Eyholz wurde mit Visp fusioniert. Sehenswert sind die Kirche St. Martin sowie zahlreiche römisch-katholische Kirchengebäude und Kapellen. Zusammen mit Brig-Glis bildet Visp ein wirtschaftlich bedeutendes Ballungsgebiet und ist mit der Chemieindustrie (Werk Lonza) und weiteren Unternehmen das Zentrum der Oberwalliser Industrie.
Der Bahnhof Visp ist ein wichtiger Knotenpunkt der Matterhorn-Gotthard-Bahn und Umsteigebahnhof der Neuen Eisenbahn-Alpentransversalen (NEAT) auf der Linie Basel-Bern-Lötschberg-Domodossola-Mailand.
Visp (658 m above sea level) is a municipality and the capital of the district of the same name in the Swiss canton of Valais. It lies at the entrance to the southern valleys of Mattertal and Saastal. The former municipality of Eyholz merged with Visp. Popular sights are the church St. Martin and numerous Roman Catholic church buildings and chapels. Visp forms together with Brig-Glis an economically important agglomeration area and is the center of the Upper Valais industry with the chemicals industry (Lonza plant) and other companies.
The Visp railway station is an important junction of the Matterhorn-Gotthard Railway and interchange station of the New Railway Links through the Alps (Neue Eisenbahn-Alpentransversalen -- NEAT) along the line Basel--Bern--Lötschberg--Domodossola--Milan.
