Improved asset tracking, asset management, trend monitoring, preventive maintenance and decreased emergency response times with IBM Maximo software
Hi, I'm Peter Hacking. I'm from the University of Western Australia. I'm the systems developer in the facilities management section.
We're in tertiary education. We're one of the group of eight universities in Australia. We're trying to become one of the top 50 universities in the world. We do a lot of research and we also have teaching.
We have some like 100,000 assets that we manage and we have a student body of 19,000.
We deployed Maximo back in 1999, and since then, we've been able track our assets much better than we could before. We can manage our assets. We can actually monitor trends in maintenance requirements. We can drill down on our assets. We can find out where all our assets are much easier.
Asset management has made our business smarter because we can now report on maintenance requirements for each asset. We can monitor trends in asset maintenance which then allows us to plan maintenance around those assets so that we can actually get to them before they break down, which increases our planned maintenance usage within Maximo.
From a cost perspective, the biggest impact by using Maximo has been that we are able to use the preventive maintenance application to plan more maintenance rather than reactive maintenance, which is what we did in the past.
From a response perspective, we are able to respond quicker and more reliably to maintenance requests and especially emergency requests or emergency needs because there is better tracking for the work order process.
We're hoping to decrease paperwork at the university by using Maximo Everyplace. We are reviewing it at the moment. This will allow us to communicate directly with our tradespeople on the ground using iPhones, iPads, in real time and they will be able to update Maximo from those devices also.
The upgrade to Version 7 has allowed us to open up reporting to our client base in the faculties and schools of the university to allow them to report against their own assets and the building, to monitor maintenance costs and also plan their budgets better.
