Police have released footage of an assault that is believed to be linked to an attack that left a man with a broken jaw in Manchester city centre.
At 3.10am on Saturday 26 November 2011, the 28-year-old victim was waiting for a taxi with a group of friends on Deansgate, outside the Topkapi Restaurant, when they were approached by a gang of men.
Without any provocation, the victim was punched in the face before falling to the ground.
The men continued to attack him before they walked away.
It is thought there were five to ten men in the group.
Now CCTV footage has been released of an attack that took place just minutes earlier a few yards away.
Detective Constable Gareth Croll from North Manchester CID said: "The victim of the assault on the footage has never come forward and we are eager to speak to him.
"I would urge the people captured on the CCTV to contact police and let us know what happened. They may hold vital information into the circumstances surrounding this assault and the attack that left the man with a broken jaw. The information you provide will be treated in the strictest of confidence.
"We believe both attacks were completely unprovoked assault and I would urge anyone who may have been in the area or been waiting for a taxi and saw the incident to get in touch."
Anyone with information should hone police on 0161 856 3914 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
